As the country’s housing stock ages, more of the real condition of a home will sit in the systems owners cannot see. The homes that come through the next few decades in good shape will be the ones whose owners maintained the invisible systems on a schedule, supported by the local trades that know how those systems were built and how they fail. The plumbing will keep being the part nobody thinks about until it fails. The owners and the metros that think about it anyway are the ones that will not be paying for the failure.
